Dr. Samantha Hart is a board-certified specialist in emergency and critical care medicine. She was born and raised in Perth, Western Australia. She graduated from Murdoch University School of Veterinary Medicine with first class honors in 2005. She moved to Leesburg, Virginia, where she did a neonatology internship, rotating internship, and combined equine surgery residency and Masters of Science at Marion duPont Scott Equine Medical Center (part of Virginia Tech). After becoming board-certified in large animal surgery, she then went on to complete a large animal emergency and critical care fellowship at New Bolton Center, University of Pennsylvania. After completing her fellowship and achieving board-certification in the emergency and critical care, she stayed on as a clinical lecturer at New Bolton Center for an additional year. It was at that time, that Dr. Hart developed a passion for management and care of critically ill patients, and ultimately accepted a small animal emergency and critical care residency at the University of Pennsylvania. Following completion of her residency, she has worked in large, private, 24-hour referral hospitals in Washington, D.C. and Pennsylvania prior to moving to Colorado to join AESC’s team.
Dr. Hart has extensive academic and private practice experience in the management of critically ill dogs and cats suffering from a wide variety of illnesses including respiratory distress, cardiac disease, renal failure/kidney injury, septic shock, trauma, acute toxicities, heat stroke, and other ailments. Dr. Hart’s clinical and research interests include fluid resuscitation and individualized fluid therapy, antimicrobial stewardship, mechanical ventilation, septic shock, electrolyte and acid-base disorders, and many others! Dr. Hart truly believes in providing high-quality, evidence-based care to all patients. She is passionate about educating everyone involved in a case from students, interns, other doctors, to the clients/pet owners themselves. Client care and education is extremely important to Dr. Hart, and she strives to provide honest and thorough communication with pet owners through every step of their pet’s stay and beyond.
Dr. Hart’s personal interests include mountain biking, snowboarding, hiking, volunteering, and spending time with her partner and dogs. She is excited to be in Colorado and to be able to enjoy all that this amazing state has to offer!
