Laboratory Technician

Reports to: Technician Manager

Rate of Pay: $18 - $22 hourly DOE

Overall Responsibility:  The Lab Technician will be to perform in house laboratory testing for multiple departments, manage samples to be sent to outside laboratories and maintain the inventory of the lab space. The Lab Technician will also act as assistant to the Pharmacy Technician when not performing lab tasks. The creation of this position is to allow the technical staff to better focus their time on patient care while also expediating diagnostic testing.

Key Areas of Responsibility:

  • Perform in-house diagnostic testing with accuracy and efficiency i.e CBC, Chemistries, Pt/Ptt, U/A, Lacuna Cytology machine, Microscopic Cytologies, EPOC, IDEXX snap tests, Blood typing/crossmatching.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work environment.
  • Ensure all laboratory supplies are properly stocked and any inventory in need of ordering is communicated to the inventory manager on a regular basis.
  • Managing various types of lab samples from multiple departments that are to be sent out to outside laboratories across the country.
  • Capability to run multiple patient samples simultaneously in a fast-paced work environment.
  • Knowledge of different sample types needed to preform various diagnostic testing.
  • Maintaining lab equipment.
  • Troubleshooting issues with lab equipment, communicating with IDEXX support when needed.
  • Assisting the Pharmacy Technician if not preforming laboratory duties.
  • Other duties as needed.

Educational Requirements: High School diploma or equivalent.  Previous lab experience is required.  Certification desirable, but not mandatory, providing that the candidate successfully completes training given.

Physical Requirements (if any): Able to lift up to 50lbs.  Standing and sitting for long periods.

Interacts with: Clients, Doctors, outside pharmacies, Technicians, Client Service Reps and various AESC Staff.
