ventilator therapy is now available at Animal Emergency &
Specialty Center!
We can offer the beloved pets of your dedicated clients continuous mixed-gas, prolonged
ventilatory support.
Indications
for ventilation:
- Severe pulmonary
contusions
- Intoxications
(ivermectin, paralytics, paraquat)
- Pulmonary edema
- Severe pneumonia
What
is involved in ventilation?
- Airway
management (endotracheal intubation or tracheostomy)
- Monitoring
of acid-base/respiratory function with-serial blood gas and
radiography
- Maintenance
of normoperfusion and organ function
- Central
and peripheral IV catheterization
- Continuous
Central Venous Pressure monitoring (CVP)
- Urinary
catheterization
- Arterial
catheterization and moment-to-moment monitoring of arterial blood
pressure
- Sedation
or anesthesia to maintain ventilation-combination of paralytics and
other drugs to control
motion/provide amnesia.
What
should you, as the referring veterinarian, and your client expect?
- Communication—animals
receiving mechanical ventilation are extremely sensitive and subject
to change in status at any time—rest assured that immediate
communication will occur whenever change in the patient’s status
occurs.
- Cost—Ventilation
is very labor and material intensive.
- Initial setup
onto ventilator--$1,500, and includes the 1st
6 hours
- Includes: venous, arterial
and urinary catheterization, continuous arterial
and CVP monitoring as indicated, IV fluid and analgesics/anesthetics
necessary for intubation, intubation (tracheostomy additional);
baseline laboratory data, ventilator tubing and ventilator startup.
- Maintenance of
ventilation--$1,500/24 hours
- Includes: all
necessary drugs/medications/antibiotics/blood gas monitoring,
arterial pressure and CVP monitoring, organ function monitoring,
24-hour one-on-one monitoring of patient by experienced certified
technician and/or veterinarian, recheck radiographs, catheter
maintenance, on-going fluid therapy, necessary inotropes/pressors to
support blood pressure.
- Additional
services not included above: tracheostomy, blood products, albumin,
ultrasound, other surgical procedures if necessary.
