Jennifer Hazlett, DVM, MS, DACVS
Dr. Hazlett was born in Agaña Heights, Guam. Growing up in a military family, she moved all over the United States. Her desire to be a veterinarian was apparent from a very early age, when her favorite place to sleep at Grandma’s was the dog’s bed with the dog. She landed her first job in the veterinary field as a kennel technician at 13 years old.
Dr. Hazlett attended undergraduate school in California. While in undergraduate school, she trained and showed event horses as well as hunter/jumpers. After earning a BS in biology with a minor in chemistry, Dr. Hazlett moved to Colorado to apply to Colorado State University Veterinary school. She was hired as a surgical technician at a small animal referral hospital, where she worked for two years and she realized her desire to be a small animal surgeon. Dr. Hazlett was accepted to veterinary school at Colorado State University and achieved her DVM in 2002.
Dr. Hazlett completed an internship in small animal medicine and surgery at VCA West Los Angeles Animal Hospital in 2003, and then moved back to Fort Collins to be a surgery resident at Colorado State University. She completed a three-year residency in small animal surgery, also receiving an M.S. in Clinical Sciences. Dr Hazlett was certified as a Diplomate of Veterinary Surgery in 2008. After residency, Dr. Hazlett worked as a small animal surgeon at VCA Veterinary Care Referral Center. After getting married, she moved to California to be with her husband. Dr. Hazlett then worked as a small animal surgeon in Los Angeles where she also trained surgical residents. She and her husband welcomed their son to the world in 2011. Thereafter, they moved home to Colorado to be close to grandparents and family.
Dr. Hazlett enjoys the diversity of cases in the surgical field. Her current research interests include oncologic surgery along with minimally invasive surgery. Outside of the hospital, she enjoys spending time with her family including two rescue dogs, hiking, running, horseback riding, skiing and baking.
